This is the first phone conversation between the two leaders since Le was elected as Prime Minister of Viet Nam on April 7, 2026.

Premier Li warmly congratulated Le upon his election as the Vietnamese Prime Minister and highly valued Le's contributions to the relations between Viet Nam and China.

The Party and State of Viet Nam always regard the development of ties with China as a consistent policy, an objective requirement, a strategic choice and a top priority in its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, multi-lateralization and diversification, Le reassured.

The two sides agreed to maintain regular exchanges in a sincere and trustworthy manner, coordinate closely in realizing high-level agreements.

Prime Minster Le suggested Viet Nam and China further consolidate strategic trust, well organize high-level exchanges and contacts as well as the existing cooperation mechanisms, including the 3+3 ministerial-level strategic dialogue on diplomacy, defense and security, and promote infrastructure connectivity between the two countries.

Le called on both countries to accelerate bilateral trade in a more balanced and sustainable manner, soon launch smart border gate system, and jointly build cross-border economic cooperation zones, thereby further advancing bilateral trade, investment, and cooperation.

He also suggested the two countries expand cooperation in science, technology, education, and high-quality human resource training while promoting cultural and tourism partnership and local-to-local cooperation mechanisms.

Both sides compared notes on regional and international issues of shared concerns, pledging to work closely together to ensure the success of APEC Year 2026 in China and APEC Year 2027 in Viet Nam.

Both sides also agreed to effectively control and better handle differences and maintain maritime peace and stability, thereby consolidating an environment conducive to national development in each country./.
