Prime Minister Le Minh Hung appointed as Vice Chairman of National Defense and Security Council

The National Assembly on Wednesday approved a resolution endorsing the State President's nominees for the Vice Chairman and members of the National Defense and Security Council at its first session. 

Members of the National Defense and Security Council comprise: Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man; Vice Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang, Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung.

Under the Constitution, the State President serves as Commander-in-Chief of the people's armed forces and Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council.

The National Defense and Security shall be responsible for submitting proposals to the National Assembly to decide on matters such as a declaration of war. It is also tasked with mobilizing all national resources to safeguard the country.

In wartime, the National Defense and Security Council shall exercise special powers assigned by the National Assembly and decides on the participation of the people's armed forces in international activities aimed at maintaining regional and global peace./.
