Prime Minister leads National steering committee for overcoming post-war consequences

Le will be assisted by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang as the permanent deputy head and Minister of Agriculture and Environment Trinh Viet Hung and Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan as deputy heads.

The Committee is tasked with proposing to the Prime Minister policies, objectives, tasks, and solutions for addressing major and cross-sectoral issues, as well as measures to mobilize domestic and international resources to accelerate the remediation of the post-war consequences of landmines, unexploded ordnance, and chemical toxic substances.

The Committee will assist the Prime Minister in directing, and supervising ministries, agencies, and localities in implementing major and cross-sectoral matters related to programs and plans for addressing the post-war consequences of landmines, unexploded ordnance, and chemical toxic substances.

Viet Nam is one of the countries most suffered by war consequences, unexploded ordnances and toxic chemicals. Post-war bombs and mines have killed more than 40,000 innocent residents and injured more than 60,000 others, plunging thousands of families into hardship.

Land contaminated by bombs and mines remained vast, creating big hurdles for socio-economic development efforts./.
