His attendance was made at the invitation of UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The high-level summit was also attended by 16 heads of state and government, including the General Secretary and President of China, the President of France, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the President of Chile, the President of Turkey, among others; as well as the heads of regional organizations such as ASEAN, the European Union, the African Union, the Alliance of Small Island States, and the Caribbean Community.
The goal of the summit was to accelerate global climate ambition ahead of COP30, which will be hosted in Brazil.
The leaders expressed concern over the increasing impacts of climate change on security, development, and human life.
The international community must take more decisive actions, while developed countries should take the lead in mobilizing climate finance and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the leaders suggested.
They expressed their strong commitment to upholding the role of multilateralism based on international law in strengthening cooperation and global solidarity to achieve the goals set out in the Paris Agreement and to ensure that the energy transition takes place in a just and equitable manner.
Addressing the event, Pham emphasized the need for a new mindset and approach that is global, comprehensive, inclusive, and people-centered while calling on all countries to unite and cooperate, uphold multilateralism, and ensure fairness and justice.
Green transition is an inevitable trend, a strategic choice, a breakthrough driving force, and a top priority with people at its center to promote rapid and sustainable development in the coming period, noted the Prime Minister.
The implementation of the goals set out in the Paris Agreement presents an opportunity to speed up the restructuring of economies and climate action efforts, as well as a chance to strengthen unity, and uphold multilateralism, told the leader.
Viet Nam has been a leading country in renewable energy production within ASEAN, and widely recognized for promoting sustainable green agriculture, and actively participating as a responsible member in most major multilateral mechanisms and initiatives related to green growth and energy transition, highlighted Pham.
The country remains firmly committed to its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, asserted the Prime Minister, adding that that Viet Nam is a good friend, a trusted partner, and an active and responsible member of the international community on the path toward green and sustainable development.
The Prime Minister urged international partners to support the nation in areas such as financial assistance, sharing advanced technologies, training human resources, and improving institutions and green governance, making contribution to the realization of the goals outlined in the Paris Agreement./.
