President launches 2024 tree planting festival

The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Tuyen Quang provincial People’s Committee.
Addressing the ceremony, President Thuong said that since 1960, Viet Nam has launched the tree planting festival every spring in response to the appeal of President Ho Chi Minh.
The tree planting festival also aims to materialize the Prime Minister’s project of planting a billion trees in the 2021-2025 period.
The project aims to protect the ecosystem, improve the scenery, respond to climate change, boost socio-economic development, improve the quality of people's life, and foster the sustainable growth of the country. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is in charge of the work and cooperate with the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment, and authorities of provinces and cities nationwide to build related annual and five-year plans.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Quoc Tri was quoted as saying that nearly 770 million trees were planted in the 2021-2023 period. In the 2024-2025 phase, the goal is to grow additional 492 million trees./.
