
According to data from the General Department of Customs, in the first half of January, Viet Nam's total import–export turnover reached approximately US$39.34 billion, up 14.64 percent compared with the same period last year. Of the figure, export turnover hit US$18.05 billion, a year-on-year increase of 11.1 percent.
Export growth concentrated in manufacturing and processing sector, especially high-tech industries linked to global supply chains.
The group of computers, electronic products and components recorded the strongest growth, rising by nearly US$930 million, equivalent to a 28.2 percent increase year on year.
It was followed by mobile phones and components, which increased by more than US$360 million (up 21.4 percent). Machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts rose by nearly US$249 million (up 13.1 percent).
Remarkably, the Southeast Asian nation earned approximately US$292 million from exporting toys and sports equipment, doubling compared to the same period last year, making it the fastest-growing product group in the first half of this month.
Last year, the nation's foreign trade achieved a historic milestone, with US$930 billion, up 18.2 percent. Exports amounted to US$475.04 billion, up 17 percent, while trade surplus attained US$20.03 billion.
