PM receives U.S. Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment

Pham urged the U.S. to consider recognizing Viet Nam as a market economy, abolish restrictions on made-in-Viet Nam high tech exports, and promote cooperation on the semiconductor supply chain.

He suggested the U.S. actively support Viet Nam to improve capacity to participate into the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) and implement the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and support Viet Nam to fulfill the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

In reply, the Under Secretary said that his Viet Nam visit targets to materialize the signed agreements between the two countries on the occasion U.S. President Joe Biden's official visit to Viet Nam last September.

The U.S. has proactively resolved the proposals mentioned by the Prime Minister on market economic mechanism and export restrictions on high-tech trade, said Fernandez.

Fernandez underlined the importance of promptly promoting Viet Nam’s abundant potentials in the semiconductor industry, adding that the U.S. will continue support for the development of the semiconductor ecosystem in Viet Nam, including cooperation in training human resources and promoting semiconductor trade.

The U.S. side will also promote cooperation in the fields of clean energy transition and essential minerals, said Fernandez.

He suggested Viet Nam resolve issues related to legal procedures for about 15 U.S. businesses, which are looking to immediately invest about US$8 billion in Viet Nam in the field of clean energy.

He also suggested the two sides organize a dialogue to seek solutions to the important economic fields./.
