PM Phuc leaves for Myanmar visit

VGP – Prime Minister on Monday left for a three-day official visit to Myanmar at the invitation of President U Win Myint.

He is accompanied by Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Governor of the State Bank of Viet Nam Le Minh Huong, Deputy Minister of National Defense Be Xuan Truong among other officials.

The Viet Nam-Myanmar relationship dated back in 1947 when the former first set up liaison office in Yangon. On May 28, 1975, both countries officially established diplomatic relations.

On political aspect, both sides have been traditional friends and trusted partners in ASEAN and at other regional and global forums.

Regarding economic ties, Viet Nam is the 10th biggest trade partner of Myanmar with the two-way trade volume reaching US$870 million and US$790 million in 2018 and the first ten months in 2019, respectively. The two countries are striving to raise the trade figure to US$ 1 billion next year.

On investment, Viet Nam ranks 7th among biggest foreign investors in Myanmar, 25 projects worth nearly US$ 2.2 billion. Statistics show more than 200 Vietnamese businesses have poured capital in Myanmar./.
