PM inspects mega irrigation project in Ninh Thuan

VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on April 16 inspected the construction of Cai River Reservoir - a component of the Tan My Irrigation Project at Bac Ai District in the south-central coast province of Ninh Thuan.

The Prime Minister is accompanied by Minister-Chairman of Government Office Tran Van Son, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha and Secretary of Ninh Thuan Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Duc Thanh.

Ninh Thuan is the driest province in the country. Severe droughts have been affecting the locality over many years, causing serious damage to agricultural production.

The locality is now home to 21 water reservoirs with the total capacity of 194 million cubic meters. Once completed, the total capacity of Cai River Reservoir is larger than the aggregate capacity of 21 current reservoirs.

Tan My Irrigation Project has the total investment capital worth VND5,951 billion (or US$260 million), which is being carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The same day, Prime Minister Pham attends a ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of Ninh Thuan Province and awards the First Class Labor Medal for the locality.
