Under the theme “Belt and Road Cooperation: Shaping a Brighter Shared Future”, the forum featured the participation of around 5,000 delegates, including leaders of more than 90 international organizations and officials from over 190 countries.
In his opening remarks, Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping called for joint efforts to continue facilitating the initiative towards the sustainable development goals, contributing to improving the people’s lives.
The Chinese leader said that the building of the “Belt and Road” initiative has opened up new space for world economic growth, while creating a new platform to promote international trade and investment. He also emphasized the continued maintenance of the principle of cooperation in the spirit of interest sharing, joint efforts and wide consultations.
As scheduled, Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping will chair a round-table summit with leaders on April 27, which features three sessions, including promoting connectivity to seek new growth drivers, strengthening policy resonance and building closer partnerships, and promoting green and sustainable development to implement the UN Agenda 2030. The conference will adopt a joint statement of the leaders, which is the main document of the forum.
Within the framework of the “Belt and Road” initiative, China has proposed five main areas of cooperation, including policy connectivity; infrastructure connectivity; trade and investment connectivity and trade facilitation; financial-monetary connectivity; and people connectivity.
So far, 150 countries and international organizations have signed cooperation deals related to the “Belt and Road” initiative, including strengthening the resonance between national and regional-scale economic integration initiatives and the “Belt and the Road” initiative.
