The decision will be implemented on a pilot basis for two weeks, according a document issued recently by the municipal People’s Committee.

Meanwhile, five-year-old kids may be allowed to come back to schools on December 27.

After the trial period, schools will draw up lessons learnt and propose if physical learning could be resumed across the city from January 3, 2022.

The southern city has administered the first COVID-19 vaccine jabs to almost all children aged 12 to 17 and is preparing to give them the second shots.

Reopening schools is a significant issue for a city of 1.7 million students like Ho Chi Minh City as the epidemic situation has improved, with many locales becoming ‘green zones,’ or areas at low risk of COVID-19 transmission, said Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai.

Virtual classes have caused many difficulties for students since many of them have no computers or laptops for remote learning.

Students cannot fully apprehend knowledge in online classes compared to learning directly at schools./.
