According to Expedia, global demand for island vacations is rising rapidly. Online searches for island getaways have increased by 55 percent year-on-year, while social media mentions have grown by around 20 percent.

The ranking also reflects a growing travel trend in which tourists increasingly favor islands that preserve their unspoiled natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and offer better value for money, rather than traditional resort destinations.

With its increasingly sophisticated tourism ecosystem, strategic geographical location, and rich cultural identity, Phu Quoc is well positioned to establish itself as a new tourism icon in the region.

Notably, searches for Phu Quoc on Expedia have risen by 25 percent, underscoring the island's growing appeal among international travelers. The platform praised Phu Quoc for its comprehensive resort ecosystem, premium travel experiences, and competitive pricing.

Phu Quoc was selected as the host venue for the APEC Economic Leaders' Week in 2027, creating new opportunities for the island as Viet Nam enters a new era of development. The event is expected to strengthen Phu Quoc's position as one of the world's leading destinations for international events and conferences.

Earlier, Phu Quoc was voted Asia's most beautiful island by readers of Condé Nast Traveler. It attracted 5.7 million tourists in the first six months this year, up 30 percent year-on-year and meeting 68 percent of this year's target.

The largest island in Viet Nam hosted 1.32 million foreign tourists during the period, up 50 percent year-on-year, according to a report from the province's Department of Tourism.
