Pepper export looks to US$1 bln

VGP – Pepper is expected to gain US$1 billion in export turnover and join the group of “One billion dollar club”, according to the General Statistics Office.

In the January-September period, pepper export was equivalent to the figure in 2012.

Export turnover in 2012 surged by 74 times against 1986's, achieving an annual average growth pace of 18.2%.

Last year, Viet Nam beat India to become the largest pepper exporter in the world.

Pepper cultivation area in the country increased from 7,000 hectares in 1995 to 58,900 hectares in 2012.

So far, Vietnamese peppers are present in 23 foreign countries and territories. The US, Germany and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are the three biggest importers of Viet Nam’s peppers./.
