This is the latest move taken by the southern metropolis to contain the spread of the virus.

The city has reported 7,655 community infection cases of COVID-19 since the fourth COVID-19 wave began on April 27, 2021, making it the current biggest COVID-19 hotspot in Viet Nam.

Earlier on Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam urged the city to take more decisive and drastic measures to break COVID-19 transmission chains.

Such measures aim to shorten current social distancing time, thereby helping to protect both material and spiritual life of residents, especially the poor, said Vu who is also Chairman of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

The Deputy PM also said the Government would adopt regulations requiring that all people with travel records to/from pandemic areas, including Ho Chi Minh City shall have to make health declaration.

Those people may also be required to stay at home for at least seven days, Vu added./.
