Over 1.9 million households live below multi-dimensional poverty line

They accounted for 7.52 percent of Viet Nam’s total households, reported a survey conducted by the MOLISA on poverty rate in Viet Nam in 2022.

The northern midland and mountainous region has high poverty rate of 21.92 percent, followed by the Central Highlands, 15.39 percent, the north-central and central coastal region, 10.04 percent, the Mekong Delta region, 5.73 percent, the Red River Delta region, 2.45 percent, and the southeast region, 0.34 percent.

The northern midland and mountainous region had both high ratios of poor and near-poor households (14.23 percent and 7.69 percent, respectively), while the southeast region reported the lowest ratios at 0.21 percent and 0.13 percent, respectively.

In 2022, the State budget allocated VND 23 trillion for poverty reduction efforts. 

As of December 31, 2022, 6.5 million poor and near-poor households accessed VND 283 trillion in credit loans with preferential interest rates. 

Under the new multi-dimensional poverty standards for the 2021-2025 period, the income-based poverty threshold for poor households VND1.5 million per person per month.

In urban areas, the poverty line is VND2 million per person per month./.
