Tran Thi Nhi Yen of Viet Nam (left) wins two silvers in women’s 100m and 200m events at the Asian U20 Athletics Championship. She has qualified for the world competition in Peru in August.
Yen, on April 26, came second in the women's 200m event in a time of 23.48sec.
It was the new national junior record, beating the old one of 23.72sec that Yen made last August.
Chinese runner Liu Yinglan successfully took gold, running 0.54sec faster than Yen.
Jirapat Khanonta of Thailand finished third, clocking 24.34sec.
It was Yen's second silver as she took the first one in the morning session in the women's 100m event.
She was in the lane three against seven talented runners. The Vietnamese made up strong sprint and was the second to cross the finish line in a time of 11.40sec, just a hair gap short of Chinese winner Chen Yujie (11.32sec).
It was Yen's new personal best and new national junior record. The old one was 11.64sec set up in 2016 by Le Tu Chinh.
Furthermore, Yen's times were good enough to help her qualify for the World U20 Athletics Championships which will be organised in Lima, Peru, in August.
Last year, Yen secured silver in the 200m of the 32nd SEA Games and qualified for the finals of the Asian Games' 200m class.
She is in the waiting list of the World Athletics, who will receive a wildcard to take part in the upcoming Paris Olympics in July.
Back to the Dubai event, Vietnamese runner Le Thi Tuyet Mai also qualified for the world championship's women's 400m hurdles.
Mai did not claim a top three position but her time of 1min 00.81sec in the qualifier was better than the standard of 1:01.00./.
