nCoV update: 13th nCoV patient confirmed

VGP – The Ministry of Health on February 7 confirmed that a 29-year-old female resident in Binh Xuyen district in the northern province of Vinh Phuc has been tested positive for the novel coronavirus (nCoV), becoming the 13th nCoV patient in Viet Nam.

The latest patient was among eight workers at Nihon Plast Company returning home from Wuhan, China on the flight on January 17. Six of them have been contracted the virus.

The province has taken the lead among localities in Viet Nam in the number of nCoV patients with eight one.

Unlike other patients, this female patient has shown no signs of illness such as fever and cough, however, she has been isolated at a medical facility.

Currently, the patient has been treated and isolated at Tam Dao health center with good health.

The Ministry of Health has required the local authorities to closely monitor those closely contacting with nCoV positive patients.

Apart from Vinh Phuc, nCoV epidemic have been reported in Ho Chi Minh City (three cases), Khanh Hoa Province (one) and Thanh Hoa Province (one).

Three of the patients have been discharged from hospitals after successfull treatment at hospitals.

The same day, the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology said that it has successfully grown and isolated the nCoV, paving the way for fast diagnosis of the virus.

This is the first time Vietnamese scientists successfully cultures the nCoV.

As of the morning of February 8, as many as 724 patients died of nCoV and 34,879 infection cases were reported around the world./.
