Viet Nam always treasures contributions by its foreign partners like the World Bank, the US Agency for International Development, Belgium and the Republic of Korea to the working out of country’s strategy and plan on the issue, said MoPI Deputy Minister Nguyen The Phuong.

The Deputy PM also called upon businesses  to apply environment-friendly technologies to cut greenhouse gas emissions. The move is a decisive factor in the country’s green growth strategy.

Earlier, the Viet Nam Green Growth Strategy was approved in September, 2012, targeting to synthesize green action plans of major sectors and society.

The strategy aims to accelerate the process of economic restructuring in order to use natural resources efficiently, reduce greenhouse gas emissions through research and application of modern technologies, develop infrastructure to improve the entire efficiency of the economy, cope with climate change, contribute to poverty reduction, and drive economic growth in a sustainable manner.

Specifically, the strategy aims to reduce the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions by 8-10 % as compared to the 2010 level; and reduce energy consumption per unit of GDP by 1-1.5% per year; reduce greenhouse gas emissions from energy activities by 10-20% compared to the business as usual case. This commitment includes a voluntary reduction of approximately 10%, and an additional 10% reduction with additional international support.

This objective underlines Viet Nam’s commitment to low carbon growth and to global efforts to mitigate climate change./.
