Nam Định to base its 2010development on advantage industries

VGP – In its latest resolution on socio-economic development in 2010, the People’s Council of the Red River Delta province of Nam Định set the goals of increase the province’s GPD by at least 9% and raise the annual per capita GDP to VND 13.5 million.

Garment and textile are the traditional mainstay industry of Nam Định Province

The economic structure is proportioned with agro-forestry and fisheries (29.8%), industry (36%) and services (34.2%). The export turnover is expected to reach at least US $230 million.

Nam Định strives to reduce its poor households to 6%, train 45% of its labor force and generate about 27,500 new jobs.

The province is known as a traditional center of garments and textiles in Việt Nam, boasting for such names as Nam Định Textile Mill, Sông Hồng Garment Company, and Garment and Textile Vocational College.

Thus, Nam Định plans to diversify its trade promotion activities and expand garment and textile markets, generating more jobs for local laborers.

Cultivation remains the backbone of the province of which nearly 80% of population is residing in rural areas. By developing hybrid rice varieties, Nam Định has maintained its rice yield of 120-123 quintals per hectare per year. The province produces nearly 1 million tons of rice a year.

Nam Định is raising 850,000-900,000 pigs, 55,000-57,000 heads of cattle and 5-5.5 million fowls. So, it is planning to make full use of these advantages to develop processing industries to serve export.

The province will also pay attention to nurturing its labor force through vocational courses for local students and laborers.

Administrative reforms are accelerated next year in order to improve the performance of the local State apparatus.
