Mu Cang Chai has become a popular destination among tourists |
Mu Cang Chai terraced fields have long been well-kown and considered a must-visit place for tourists to the northwestern region of Viet Nam. These are the terraced fields on mountain slopes, which cover an area of about 2,200 hectares in the three communes of La Pan Tan, Che Cu Nha and De Xu Phinh in Mu Cang Chai district.
Most recently, this famous scenic spot has been recognized by the PM as a special national relic together with some other reputable heritages. Earlier in 2007, Mu Cang Chai terraced fields were rated as a national relic site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Mu Cang Chai is a highland district of Yen Bai province with Hmong people who account for over 90% of its population. The people here have a rich folk culture that reflects a perception of the real life being associated with nature. In recent years, Mu Cang Chai has become a popular destination among tourists.
As a cultural heritage created by indigenous people over generations, the terraced fields in Mu Cang Chai have been attracting an increasing number of visitors. Coming to Mu Cang Chai, tourists can see terraced fields of layer after layer everywhere stretching across hills. The terrain here features high mountains divided by streams and abysses, alongside the vast rolling pine forests.
The raspberry-shaped terraces, forests and streams being interwoven together have created an extremely spectacular landscape. The terraced fields are used for cultivation on hilly areas, and are also a means to effectively keep water supplied to the fields.

In recent years, Mu Cang Chai terraced fields have emerged as an attractive tourist destination. Annually, Yen Bai province organizes diverse activities to attract visitors, including exploring the Muong Lo Cultural and Tourism Festival and the Mu Cang Chai Terraced Fields national relic site./.
