More golds for Viet Nam from athletics, powerlifting

VGP — Vietnamese athletes pocketed six gold medals from the 11th ASEAN Para Games on August 3 in Surakarta, Indonesia.

Vietnamese athlete Trinh Cong Luan (left) has won two gold medals from the 11th Para Games in Indonesia.

Trinh Cong Luan had his second gold medal from the Games as he won the men's F56 javelin with a throw of 23.38m.

His first gold was in discus throw event on August 2.

His teammate Nguyen Thi Hai also enjoyed her second gold in the women's F57 javelin after the first on in shot put event on August 1.

Pham Nguyen Khanh Minh finished first in the men's T12 400m event.

Ngo Xuan Doan won the men's T/F44 high jump while Vuong Chau triumphed in the men's F42 discus throw.

Vietnamese athletics team has earned 14 gold medals. They still have competitions in the coming day to complete their target of 16 golds.

In powerlifting, Nguyen Van Hung won the men's 72kg category. He helped the powerlifting team fulfill their task of five golds.

Viet Nam Team also took 10 silvers and eight bronzes from athletics, powerlifting, table tennis and swimming.

With 31 golds, Viet Nam places third in the medal tally.

Indonesia is leading with 87 golds, followed by Thailand who grabs 63 titles.

Viet Nam sends a 153-strong team, including 120 athletes, to Indonesia. They will compete in eight (athletics, swimming, powerlifting, badminton, table tennis, chess, judo, archery) out of 14 sports, targeting 40 gold medals to place in leading group.

The 11th Para Games will be held from July 30 to August 6 with almost 1,200 athletes, coaches, staff and officials./.
