Mekong Delta yields over 24 million tones of rice

VGP – The Mekong Delta estimated its rice yield will hit 24.6 million tones thanks to expansion in rice cultivation areas and three consecutive bumper crops.

In 2012, the Mekong Delta turned over 4.1 million hectare of land into rice cultivation.

Local authorities encouraged farmers to use different rice varieties that can adapt to every ecological feature. These varieties give higher productivity and quality and are highly resistant to insects.

The region has also expanded the cultivation area of high-quality rice varieties for export, consolidated irrigation networks and early harvested ripe paddy to avoid flood./.
