Party General Secretary, State President Nguyen Phu Trong addresses the National Conference to review anti-corruption work for 2013-2020 period, held in person and virtually on December 12, 2020.

Trong made the above statement at the National Conference to review anti-corruption work for 2013-2020 period, held in person and virtually on December 12.

The top Vietnamese leader rejected the notion that too many efforts on cracking down corruption would only discourage innovations.

He also rejected information alleging that punishment of corrupts officials is just an “internal fight” or “struggle of political factions”, especially when Viet Nam is preparing for the 13th National Party Congress.

He expressed his belief that good work in Party building and anti-corruption has contributed to accelerating socio-economic development, maintaining political stability, and strengthening defense and security and external relations.

Anti-corruption, as Trong said, is a continuous and enduring fight that requires high political determination that must be translated into practical actions, great endeavors of authorities at all levels, especially anti-corruption agencies, active engagement of the Fatherland Fronts and socio-political organization, and support and encouragement of people.

Anti-corruption is the fight against internal enemy, an important and urgent task that must ben carried out in a drastic, consistent and continuous manner across all levels and sectors, Trong emphasized.

He also underlined the need to put in place mechanisms that leave no room for corruption and no one dares to be corrupt.

Anti-corruption must be conducted in combination with thrift practice, Party building and rectification, and involvement of the whole political system and people.

The top Vietnamese leader ordered all agencies, units and organizations to strictly implement regulations on openness, transparency and accountability while effectively controling assets and income of those holding managerial positions.

According to Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Quy Vuong, investigation agencies have started legal proceedings against 1,856 cases involving 4.072 corrupt people since 2013 when the Central Steering Committee for Anti-corruption was established.

Meanwhile, up to 93% of people surveyed show their confidence in the Party leadership in the fight against corruption, according to a recent survey of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Propagation and Education./.
