Measures proposed to limit combo charter flights to biggest airports

VGP – The Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam has suggested the Ministry of Transport limit combo flights to Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat International Airports in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City to reduce COVID-19 testing overload.

The authority reported there were 47 international flights carrying more than 6,000 passengers to Viet Nam from from January 4-7.

Of these, 15 flights with nearly 1,300 passengers, including 600 passengers onboard combo flights, landed at Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City.

Meanwhile, 23 flights with nearly 3,000 passengers, including nearly 1,800 passengers on combo flights, touched down at Noi Bai airport in the capital city of Ha Noi.

All passengers from Omicron-hit countries are now required to undergo rapid COVID-19 testing upon arrival. Therefore, CAAV proposed combo charter flights to be diverted to smaller airports including Van Don, Da Nang, and Cam Ranh.

Viet Nam has resumed regular international fights from January 1 after nearly two-year closure (from March 2020), connecting Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City with

Bangkok, Phnom Penh, San Francisco, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei, Tokyo, and Vientiane.

In coming time, more air routes connecting with the Republic of Korea, Laos, China may be reopened./.
