Specifically, civil servants and public employees take five days off according to the provisions of the Labor Code (two days before Tet and three days after Tet). Because the New Year holiday coincides with the weekend, employees will be entitled to an additional two days off, for a total of 7 days off.
Accordingly, civil servants and public employees will be off for the 2023 Lunar New Year from Friday, January 20, 2023, to the end of Thursday, January 26, 2023.
Previously, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs consulted ministries and agencies on two plans for the Lunar New Year holiday in 2023, including seven and nine days.
MOLISA proposes to choose a 7-day plan to ensure that the total number of consecutive days off is not too long and harmonizes the time off before and after Tet. MOLISA will submit it to the Prime Minister after synthesizing opinions from ministries and sectors.
Employees who work overtime or work at night on holidays and Tet will be entitled to a salary of at least 300 percent, excluding wages for working during the day.
Regarding the National Day holiday in 2023, the Ministry of Home Affairs also agreed to submit to the Government a 4-day holiday plan. Civil servants and public employees are off from Friday, September 1, 2023, to the end of Monday, September 4, 2023.
Besides annual public holidays, foreign workers working in Viet Nam will be entitled to one more traditional New Year's day and their country's national day.
