Japan, VN reach deal on satellite data exchange

VGP - The Viet Nam National Space Centre (VNSC), under the Viet Nam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) in Ha Noi on September 18 signed an agreement on satellite data exchange.

The pact aims to assist the DataCube programme in Viet Nam, which is an earth-observation-satellite database used for the development of other applications to monitor paddies, forests and water quality.

As part of the agreement, the Japanese agency will provide ScanSAR ALOS-2 products that capture the Vietnamese territory and research topics agreed upon by the two sides.

The agreement also provides a framework for the two sides to expand their cooperation in research and application development through the use of Earth observation (EO) products, not only from the ALOS-2 satellite, but also others, as well as data already available in the DataCube system.

The cooperative content under the agreement will last for two years.
