At her meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hiroshima, Japan on May 20, Georgieva spoke highly of Viet Nam encouraging growth despite global economic risks and severe impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

She also highly valued the Vietnamese Government's socio-economic policies and capacity to well contain the COVID-19 pandemic and its decision to swiftly reopen the economy.

Georgieva affirmed that the IMF will continue strong support for Viet Nam's development course.

Last month, the IMF predicted that Viet Nam's GDP may grow 5.8 percent this year to become the second fastest growing economy in Southeast Asia, only after the Philippines.

In its world economic outlook report, the IMF forecasted that Viet Nam's economy would expand 6.9 percent next year, taking the lead in the region.

The nation's GDP per capita is expected to reach nearly US$7,000 by 2028, ranking fourth in ASEAN, the IMF highlighted.

Remarkably, the country may exhibit the lowest public debt among the ASEAN Member States in 2023./.
