Under the scheme, the city’s transport system is planned to be open-ended in connections to new residential quarters, satellite urban districts, industrial zones, etc. for the sake of mutual development and using each other’s socio-economic strengths.
For road traffic, many expressways of large capacity will be built, including four elevated ones connected to each other to ease congestion on the current roads of heavy traffic. There will be 14 additional bridges over the Sài Gòn river for both road and railway traffic.
The city will construct a new rail route between Hồ Chí Minh City and Lộc Ninh entering Cambodia, as part of the trans-Asia railway with the track connected at the Dĩ An Station, build the West Belt railroad between the An Bình Station and Mỹ Tho (Cần Thơ), electrify the high-speed route to Nha Trang, and install new lines to the Hiệp Phước Harbor and Cát Lái. The underground system will also be developed with six crossing and round lines linking the upper of the city's areas.
Rivers Lòng Tàu and Soài Rạp and others will be dredged to facilitate river traffic. There will be the new Nhơn Đức Harbor to ease goods traffic en route from the Mekong Delta to the Hiệp Phước Harbor Complex.
By the year 2020, Tân Sơn Nhất airport is expected to have become a regional and international transit airport.
