Addressing the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, the UAE, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highlighted Viet Nam's responsibility and commitment to climate change – one of the world's biggest challenges today.
Pham briefed about Viet Nam's comprehensive measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while ensuring the country's energy security.
He called on the international community to stay more united, make greater efforts, and take more drastic climate actions to ensure the prosperous development of the human kind.
As the global climate system is approaching the readline while there remains gap between commitments and actions, Prime Minister Pham underscored that realizing commitments is key to consolidate trust among countries and unlock climate negotiations.
He urged developed countries to further enhance support and assistance for developing and underdeveloping countries, particularly in terms of concessional capital, technological transfer, human resource training, smart governance, and perfection of institutions.
The Prime Minister also attended a ceremony to announce the Resource Mobilization Plan to implement the Political Declaration on establishing the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
JETP was agreed between Viet Nam and the International Partners Group (IPG) in December 2022 at the EU-ASEAN summit in Brussels and outlined in the JETP Political Declaration.
During his visit to Turkey, both countries agreed on a range of measures to improve the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation.
The Turkish side pledged to soon open a consulate general in Ho Chi Minh City – Viet Nam's biggest economic engine.
Both sides agreed to facilitate trade in goods of the two countries' strength in a bid to raise the two-way trade to US$4-5 billion in the future.
Particulary, leaders of the two countries for the first time discussed the possibility of ugrading their ties to a new partnership level and launching negotiations on a free trade agreement, indicating the sides' determination to further consilidate and enhance the bilateral ties in a practical fashion.
Another highlight in during the vist was that both sides issued the first-ever Joint Statement figuring out major orientations to boost bilateral cooperation.
Viet Nam has signed or joined 17 free trade agreements, including the trade deal signed with Israel in July this year.
Viet Nam and the UAE will sign a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA), may be in 2024, after making breakthrough in negotiations.
The two countries also agreed to soon lift the two-way trade to US10 billion in the years to come.
The UAE committed to assiting Viet Nam in such fields like green growth, digital transformation, innovation, construction of financial center, logistics and sports.
Prime Minister Pham witnessed the signing of 31 agreements during his tour to Turkey and the UAE, focusing on the domains of security, agriculture, civil aviation, human resource training, digital transformation, seaport development among others./.
