This is part of the ministry's Decision No. 165/QD-BYT approving a plan on prevention and control of infectious diseases in 2022.

The plan aims to closely monitor, early detect, and resolve outbreaks in order to minimize transmission and fatality and timely prevent import of dangerous diseases into Viet Nam.

The ministry will take active steps to ensure adequate supply of COVID-19 vaccines in a bid to maintain herb immunity in accordance with recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to the assessment of the epidemic situation in Viet Nam, common diseases circulating in the world continue to be put under proper control in Viet Nam.

The morbidity and mortality rates of most endemic infectious diseases were lower than the average rate in the past five years, much lower than in other countries in the region.

The ministry attributed the sharp decrease in morbidity rate to high vaccination coverage rates.

Specifically, Viet Nam succeeded in achieving polio eradication and neonatal tetanus. A number of circulating infectious diseases such as hand, foot and mouth disease, dengue fever broke out in some localities during peak seasons without large-scale transmission.

In 2021, Viet Nam experienced the fourth wave of COVID-19 resurgence, which is the most rapid and large-scale outbreak. However, the country has basically controlled the epidemic and is effectively implementing the strategy to safely, flexibly, and effectively control the COVID-19 pandemic./.
