The project is funded by the multilateral fund for implementing the Montreal Protocol through the World Bank.

In Vietnam, HCFCs are widely used in air conditioning, insulating foams and industrial refrigeration plant applications. Last year, the country used up about 3,700 tons of HCFCs, which is equivalent to 235 tons of the compound that has the maximum potential degradation to the ozone layer.

Vietnam started to phase out the use of HCFCs in 2010. Under the the Protocol, the country will reduce 10% of HCFC usage by 2015.
