The MoU was signed on October 20, 2026, in Copenhagen, the Kingdom of Denmark, within the framework of the Viet Nam – Denmark Business Forum.
The agreement marks a strategic expansion in cooperation between the two sides, moving from seaport infrastructure to railway connectivity, aiming toward developing a multimodal logistics ecosystem and enhancing Viet Nam's international trade connectivity capacity.
The signing ceremony took place during the State visit to Denmark by General Secretary and President To Lam, witnessed by high-ranking leaders of both countries. The event not only opens up a new direction for cooperation between Hateco and APM Terminals, but also demonstrates the increasingly proactive role of Vietnamese enterprises in connecting international resources and developing strategic infrastructure to support economic growth.
Under the MOU, Hateco and APM Terminals will coordinate to research and propose investment for the development and operation of a railway freight station in the northern port city of Hai Phong, including a cargo handling center and a container yard system.
Simultaneously, both parties plan to explore three additional railway freight locations in Northern Viet Nam, aiming to establish a network connecting industrial zones, manufacturing hubs, logistics nodes, and the seaport system. Preliminary total investment for the projects planned by the two sides is estimated at approximately US$3.5 billion.

The facilities will be developed under a modern operational model, applying digital technology in cargo management, receiving, storage, and transshipment. When synchronously connected to seaports and the inter-regional transport system, this network is expected to optimize transport, reduce pressure on road networks, enhance logistics efficiency, and improve the competitiveness of import-export goods.
In the context of Viet Nam prioritizing strategic transport infrastructure development—particularly railways and multimodal transport—the agreement between Hateco and APM Terminals demonstrates a vision that anticipates logistics connectivity demands. For Northern Viet Nam—a major national industrial and export hub—the railway freight station network holds the potential to expand container transport methods, strengthening linkages between industrial parks, Hai Phong seaports, and international trade routes.
Hateco’s expanded partnership with APM Terminals—a member of A.P. Moller – Maersk, one of the world’s leading shipping and logistics groups—reflects the ability of Vietnamese enterprises to connect with international partners and demonstrates their credibility in large-scale infrastructure development.

Notably, cooperation between the two sides is expanding from investment and operation of international container ports to research and development of railway infrastructure. This is a strategic shift, showing that Hateco is not merely participating in individual project developments, but is moving toward creating an interconnected infrastructure network that meets the demands of modern supply chains.
Hateco’s presence at high-level diplomatic events, alongside concrete cooperation agreements, continues to affirm the standing of Vietnamese enterprises in the integration process as they proactively participate in infrastructure sectors that carry long-term value for the economy.
The agreement to co-develop the railway freight station network is a continuation of Hateco's strategy to expand its seaport and logistics ecosystem, built on a foundation of investment capacity, large-scale infrastructure project execution, and experience in partnering with reputable international organizations.
In Hai Phong, Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal (HHIT), located in the Lach Huyen port area, serves as a prominent milestone in the partnership between Hateco and APM Terminals. The port is developed as a modern, green, and smart deep-water port, utilizing advanced management and operational technologies to accommodate large container vessels up to 18,000 TEU and connect directly with international maritime routes.
Bringing HHIT into operation in April 2025 not only contributed to enhancing seaport infrastructure capacity in the Northern region, but also demonstrated Hateco’s capability to realize international cooperative projects—from investment and infrastructure development to operational execution.

Building on that momentum, in April 2026, Hateco and APM Terminals announced cooperation to develop the Lien Chieu International Container Port project in the central city of Da Nang. As planned, the project scale encompasses 8 container berths with a designed capacity expected at over 5.7 million TEUs per year, aiming to form a new international trade gateway in Central Viet Nam.
From seaport projects in Hai Phong and Da Nang to research plans for developing a railway freight station network, Hateco is step-by-step expanding its scope of cooperation toward integrated infrastructure and multimodal connectivity. The combination of Hateco’s project development capacity and APM Terminals’ global operational expertise forms a solid foundation for both parties to continue researching modern, efficient, and sustainable logistics solutions.
Through key infrastructure projects and partnerships with leading international partners, Hateco continues to affirm its execution capability, credibility, and long-term vision, striving to make practical contributions to modernizing logistics infrastructure and elevating Viet Nam’s position in the global supply chain./.
