Hải Phòng moves to modernize transport

VGP – The People’s Committee of Hải Phòng and the World Bank (WB) on August 16 launched a project to better urban tranport and strengthen the city’s urban development management and transportation planning capacity.

The WB will give US $175 million in loan in 40 years to the US $276.61 million project while the city will cover the rest of US $100 million.

The Hải Phòng Urban Transport Project comprises three major components, which deal with strategic urban road system, public transport improvement and capacity building.

Component A will focus on developing the urban road system by building a route linking Bắc Sơn and Nam Hải and upgrading Trường Chinh road.  

Component B will improve the public transport system. It will see the development of an institutional framework for a public transport authority, establishment of a GIS system for urban road infrastructure, improvemen of bus services and upgrade of Tam Bạc - Kiến An corridor.

Component C will concentrate on developing human resources and raising management capacity.

As many as 1,757 households are estimated to be relocated in 12 resettlement sites to give land to the project which is due to finish in 2016/.
