Gov’t will no longer grant licenses for waste imports

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc said the Government will not grant new licenses for waste imports amid port congestion due to illegal import activities.

He tasked inferior levels to strengthen coordination in preventing illegal waste inflows into Viet Nam.

As seaports have become overwhelmed with scrap imports, the Government chief asked for serious investigation of ownerless waste containers that are now occupying large space of the seaports and illegal cases will be strictly punished.

PM Phuc asked the Ministry of Transport to work with the Ministry of Finance and relevant ministries and localities to destroy or remove waste containers.

He also assigned the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to clarify negative impacts of each type of waste and work out a short list of waste imports./.
