Viet Nam sets goal to export six million tons of rice this year

Viet Nam had set goal to ship six million tons of rice this year but the Government had to tighten control of rice exports last month due to the COVID-19 outbreaks, drought and saltwater intrusion  in order to ensure national food security, according to PM Phuc.

The Government chief said he had dispatched several inter-ministerial delegations on fact-finding tours to localities and learned that the nation can export upto 6.5-6.7 million tons this year.

In addition, the COVID-19 fight has been fundamentally pushed back with the patient tally remained unchanged at 270 and no fatalities have been reported.

The new situation allows the country to restart business and production operations as it is the pressing requirement to secure jobs and growth.

The resumption of rice exports is expected to help ease difficulties against farmers, said PM Phuc.

He also tasked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to keep close watch on rice production, reserves and exports in order to take prompt responses./.
