Gov’t issues preferential import tariff under ATIGA

The Decree also stipulates conditions for goods to enjoy preferential import tariff as follows:

1 – Goods must be stated in the preferential tariff list attached with this Decree.

2 – Goods imported into Viet Nam from member countries of the ATIGA including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand (goods imported from non-tariff zones into the domestic market).

3 – Directly transported from exporting country to Viet Nam.

4 – Goods meeting origin regulations as stated in the ATIGA and exporters are to have certificates of origin (C/O) as regulated by the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade.

ATIGA officially came into effect in May 2010 after member countries signed it in Thailand in February 2009.

The agreement aims at eliminating tariffs to foster trade among Southeast Asian nations, and support joint efforts to handle non-tariff barriers and promote co-operation regarding customs inside the bloc.

Under the roadmap committed by the signatories, Viet Nam along with Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar will eliminate some 90% of their tariff lines in 2015 and 97% in 2018./.
