Prime Minister Pham said that as a responsible member of the international community, Viet Nam always appreciates the UN's leading role in maintaining peace, security, sustainable development, science, technology, digital transformation.
Viet Nam also treasures the Deputy Secretary General for the recent adoption of the Pact for the Future that includes a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations, Prime Minister Pham said.
"Viet Nam identified science, technology and innovation as an objective requirement, a strategic choice and a top priority," he said.
Digital transformation, big data, IoT, cloud computing, quantum technology, semiconductor, clean energy, new materials are new driving forces for national development, Pham added.
Specifically, Viet Nam targets to achieve GDP growth rate of at least 8 percent in 2025 and double-digit growth in the following years in a bid to becoming a modern industrial country by 2030 and a developed country with high income by 2045.
So far, Viet Nam has approved and issued a number of programs and strategies including the National Digital Transformation Program to 2025, with a vision to 2030; National Strategy on Research, Development and Application of Artificial Intelligence to 2030.
On December 22, 2024, the Politburo of the Communist Party of Viet Nam issued Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and digital transformation, which established the Central Steering Committee on science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, with the General Secretary as Head of the Steering Committee and the Prime Minister as Deputy Head of the Steering Committee.
Viet Nam said the host leader stands ready to host or co-host international events to promote multilateral understanding and cooperation in the fields of technology and artificial intelligence, including hosting policy forum on AI governance.
Prime Minister Pham took the occasion to seek UN's support for Viet Nam in building a legal framework and international standards on technology governance; promoting technology transfer; supporting Viet Nam in finance, human resource training, and management science in the field of technology, especially AI.
In reply, Amandeep Singh Gill hailed Viet Nam's increasing role in developing science and technology, innovation, including AI field.
He said that Viet Nam is a country in the path of becoming a powerful country. The UN hopes that Viet Nam would actively participate in these processes of the United Nations.
The Deputy Secretary General also expected that Vietnamese technology enterprises would not only participate and bring benefits to the socio-economic development process in the country but also participate in solving global issues, especially in developing countries, promoting South-South cooperation./.
