Gov’t chief calls for stimulating domestic consumption, broadening export markets

The Prime Minister suggested that the Ministry of Industry and Trade focus on promoting three strategic breakthroughs (institutions, infrastructure, human resources), three growth engines (investment, export and consumption), and digital transformation, green transformation, circular economy, climate change response and building a self-reliant economy in the industrial sector.  

The ministry was tasked to quickly finialize drafting of four master plans on electricity, energy, minerals and oil and gas infrastructure.

The Government chief also asked for measures to recover and spur production and export, and strengthen external economic relations as well as bilateral and multilateral cooperation to maintain and expand markets, and optimize export potentials. 

"Market diversification is needed to offset difficulties in traditional markets such as the US, China, the EU, Japan, the Republic of Korea (RoK) and ASEAN," he added. 

The Prime Minister also called for expansion of export horizon to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, South America, South Asia and Africa.

Pham urged the ministry to launch more trade promotion programs, and boost goods distribution via digital platforms and e-commerce to rural and mountainous areas in a bid to stimulate domestic consumption.

Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien reported that Viet Nam ran a trade surplus of US$ 3.6 billion in the first month of 2023 while total retail sales of goods and services saw a year-on-year increase of 20 percent./.
