The Deputy Prime Minister made the point on Thursday at a reception for Vice Governor of Wakayama prefecture Hiroshi Shimo who is on a working visit to Viet Nam.

He highly spoke of the visit, saying it represents Wakayama prefecture’s effort to cement and deepen ties with Viet Nam.

Viet Nam regards local cooperation as a practical and effective channel for the two countries to strengthen linkages in trade, investment, labor, and people-to-people exchanges, said the host leader.

He suggested Wakayama prefecture materialize the signed agreements with Viet Nam; beef up relations with Vietnamese peers; encourage local businesses to invest in Viet Nam in their fields of strength like high-tech farming, agro-forestry-fishery processing; develop manpower training; and receive Vietnamese guest workers and trainees.

In reply, Vice Governor of Wakayama prefecture Hiroshi Shimo said he hopes to use the visit to promote connection of trade and labor between Wakayama prefecture and Viet Nam.

In addition, Wakayama prefecture will boost people-to-people exchanges, especially promote the lotus exchange between Kinokawa city and Quang Nam province which was initiated by President of the Japan-Viet Nam Friendship Parliamentary Union Nikai Toshihiro and made the lotus as a symbol of spiritual connection between Vietnamese and Japanese peoples.
