Gov’t agrees on set of criteria for recognition of “vaccine passports”

Foreign ministry’s Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang made the above statement at a virtual press briefing on Thursday.

Le went on to say that the vaccine types are one of the key criteria, adding that Viet Nam accepted all vaccines licensed by the World Health Organization, or the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or the European Medicines Agency, and those approved by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health for emergency use.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has coordinated with relevant agencies to mull over a pilot plan to welcome back vaccinated tourists to Viet Nam, firstly to the Phu Quoc island in the southern province of Kien Giang, the Spokesperson said.

Due to the complicated evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic which cannot be absolutely controlled, the Government of Viet Nam has agreed to switch away from “Zero COVID-19” strategy to safe and flexible adaptation and effective management of the pandemic.

From that perspective, vaccine passports, green health cards or digital health certificates are feasible solutions to gradually reopen the economy, especially service and tourism sectors./.
