General Secretary To Lam calls for new growth model

Over the past decades, the Vietnamese economy is mainly driven by traditional growth drivers such as investment, export and consumption. In recent years, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called for promoting new drivers, including digital economy, circular economy and sharing economy, to unleash growth potential with an aim to realize strategic goals by 2030 and 2045.

To achieve the centennial goals, General Secretary To Lam initiated the overhaul of the political system to increase the efficiency of the political system's apparatus and save budget for investment development.

Prominent among them include the restructuring of the Party agencies and Cabinet ministries to put an end to overlapping functions and improve their effiency.

The number of localities shall be reduced from current 63 to 34 to open up new development space while district-level administrations will be dissolved to create a two-tier local administration system.

Over the past few months, General Secretary To Lam underscored the importance of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and private economy as new growth drivers.

In December 2024, the Party Central Committee issued Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW specifying an array of solutions to create breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation. The Party Central Committee is expected to promulgate another Resolution on private economy in the months to come./.
