General Secretary, President To Lam meets Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in New York

The top Vietnamese leader congratulated Turkey on becoming the 12th dialogue partner of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). He welcomed and voiced support for Turkey's engagement with ASEAN.

To Lam highly valued the growth momentum of Viet Nam-Turkey relations over the past time, calling on both sides to further enhance cooperation and harness their roles to promote peace, stability and sustainable development.

To Lam suggested both countries mull over a Joint Statement on elevating bilateral ties to a Strategic Partnership and work together to advance bilateral cooperation and step up the exchange of delegations, especially high-level delegations.

Both sides should also work towards raising the two-way trade to US$4 billion by enhancing market access, expansion of cooperation in strategic and potential domains such as defense and security, Halal food, science, technology, logistics and local-tolocal cooperation.

President Erdogan spoke highly of the growth momentum of Viet Nam-Turkey relations, as well as Viet Nam's development achievements and orientations.

As Viet Nam and Turkey play important roles in their respective regions, Erdogan suggested the two sides strengthen coordination to make responsible contributions to peace-building efforts and resolution of conflicts in the Middle East.

Both sides agreed to foster consultation, coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, including the United Nations; promote their bridging roles in bolstering multilateralism, upholding international law, and maintaning peace, stability, cooperation and development in their respective regions.

On the occasion, To Lam invited President Erdogan to visit Viet Nam and attend the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in 2027 as a guest.

Meanwhile, Erdogan invited To Lam to attend the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31) scheduled to take place in Turkey in November this year./.
