Fruit and vegetable export value sets new record

VGP - The export value of fruits and vegetables reached a record high of US$5.2 billion in the first 11 months, representing a year-on-year increase of 70 percent, according to the Viet Nam Fruits and Vegetables Association.

Fruits and vegetables became the biggest hard currency earner in the agricultural sector, followed by rice, cashew, coffee and cassava.

Specifically, durian export turnover contributed 40 percent of the sector's total export turnover, followed by jackfruit, watermelon, grapefruit, longan with year-on-year growth rates of 50-200 percent.

China remains the biggest importer of grown-in-Viet Nam fruits and vegetables with US$32 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 2.7 percent, accounting for 66 percent of the market share.

The U.S. ranked second with US$212 million, down 3 percent against the same period last year, followed by South Korea with US$187 million, up 25 percent, and Japan with US$151 million, up 7 percent./.
