First session of 15th National Assembly scheduled to open next week

VGP – The first working session of the 15th National Assembly will take place from July 20-31, five days shorter than the previous schedule due to COVID-19.

General Secretary and Chairman of the National Assembly Office Bui Van Cuong made the above statement at a press briefing on Saturday.

At this sitting, the legislators will consider and decide on the number of Vice Chairmen of the National Assembly and members of the Legislature’s Committees; elect General Secretary of the National Assembly, the Chairman of the Ethnic Council, the Chairmen of the Committees of the NA and the State Auditor General.

They cast vote to elect State President, Prime Minister, NA Chairman, Vice President, NA Vice Chairmen, Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court, and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuracy.

The National Assembly will decide on the organizational structure of the Government and the number of the Cabinet members; approve appointment of Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers and other Cabinet members; approve the list of Vice Presidents and members of the National Defense and Security Council and the appointment of judges of the Supreme People's Court.

Right after being elected by the NA, the NA Chairman, the State President, the Prime Minister and the Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court will take the oath of office before the National Assembly as defined by the 2013 Constitution.

The legislative body will also scrutinize the Government’s reports on socio-economic performance in the first half of 2021 and solutions for the second half, and thrift practice and anti-waste in 2020.

It will also discuss on the five-year socio-economic development plan, five-year public investment plan, investment guidelines for national target programs on new rural development and sustainable poverty reduction and social welfare for the 2021-2025 period./.
