First naval sailing ship on foreign trip

VGP - The sailing vessel 286-Le Quy Don, the first ship equipped with sails in the Vietnamese navy began an offshore training graduating session and international exchanges with the Chinese, Filipino, and Bruneian navy forces on March 27.

The sailing vessel was led by colonel Phan Van Van, Deputy Director of the Viet Nam Naval Academy, embarking the first overseas field training session to cement and deepen the friendship, cooperation, understanding, and confidence between the Vietnamese military and navy forces and foreign peers and respond to previous visits of the three navy forces.

The sailing vessel was the first of this kind in Viet Nam, specializing in providing offshore training sessions for navy trainees; conducting military diplomacy, and other duties.  

The sailing vessel, named after the Vietnamese philosopher Le Quy Don, was built in Poland on July 2, 2014 and launched on June 6, 2015.

At 67 meters long and 10 meters wide, the vessel has a total area of 1,400 square meters and weighs 857 metric tons, with three 40 meter spars.

It is outfitted with modern equipment and maritime technology, and can carry 30 sailors and up to 80 trainees for training sessions./.
