he Deputy PM assigned the mission on January 6 while attending a meeting of the Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) on reviewing 2015 tasks and implementing of 2016 plan.
Mr. Hai stressed that EVN played a leading role in balancing electricity supply and demand and participating in rural electrification.
The Government leader proposed the sector prepare for higher demands for electricity in the future; encourage private investors to engage in electricity production; and reduce coal- fired power generation in accordance with Viet Nam’s commitment on greenhouse gas emission.
In 2011-2015, EVN ensured electricity supply with 1,536 kWh per person per year, up 56% against 2010.
So far, the competitive power generation market has operated in accordance with regulations. In 2015, 62 power stations, accounting for 39.1% of the system took part in the market.
As of late 2015, total electricity output hit 38,800 MW, surging 1.8 times against 2010, ranking Viet Nam second in ASEAN (after Indonesia) and 30th in the world./.
