Deputy Prime Minister meets foreign diplomats on sidelines of UNGA’s 79th session

The Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister is accompanying General Secretary and President To Lam to attend the UN Summit of the Future and the high-level general debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79).

At the meeting with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, Bui reiterated that Viet Nam always treasures and expects to promote the special ties with Cuba.

General Secretary and President To Lam To Lam's upcoming State visit to Cuba will set a new milestone for the all-round cooperation between the two countries, he highlighted.

Viet Nam stands ready to expand collaboration with Cuba in such fields as health care, pharmacy, tourism, agriculture, energy, and construction and share its experiences with Cuba, he emphasized.

For his part, Rodriguez highlighted the special solidarity, friendship, and fraternity between the Cuban and Vietnamese peoples, adding that the Cuban Party, State, and people are looking forward to welcoming To Lam to Cuba.

Both sides agreed that Viet Nam and Cuba will coordinate closely to fruitfully carry out high-level agreements and bring into play bilateral dialogue and cooperation mechanisms, including the two foreign ministries' political consultation, the Inter-governmental Committee, the defense dialogue, and the two Parties' cooperation mechanisms.

The two sides agreed to step up parliamentary, locality-to-locality, and people-to-people ties while effectively organizing activities in celebration of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025.

During his meeting with Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze, Bui asserted that Viet Nam always places importance and hopes to enhance the traditional friendship and sound cooperation with Latvia.

He hailed Latvia's support for Viet Nam's candidacy for a seat in the UN Human Rights Council in the 2023-2025 tenure.

Bui called on Latvia to help promote the nine remaining EU members' ratification of the EU-Viet Nam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), as well as the European Commission's removal of the "yellow card" warning against Vietnamese seafood exports.

Braze asserted Latvia's support for the EU's early ratification and implementation of the EVIPA to boost the two countries' economic, trade, and investment linkages.

The two sides vowed to foster partnerships in economy, trade, education-training and, especially, such new areas as digital transformation and green transition.

Talking with Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, Bui affirmed that Viet Nam treasures the friendship and multifaceted ties with Central Asian countries, including Uzbekistan.

Bakhtiyor Saidov, for his part, said Viet Nam is one of the leading partners of Uzbekistan in Southeast Asia, affirming that Uzbekistan wishes to step up cooperation across all sectors, especially economy, trade, investment, energy, oil and gas, agriculture, and education.

The two officials pledged to work closely to bolster bilateral cooperation and soon organize the 8th session of the Inter-governmental Committee on economic-trade and scientific-technical cooperation.

At the meeting with the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy on Myanmar Julie Bishop, Bui affirmed Viet Nam's willingness to support the role and efforts of the Special Envoy in seeking a peaceful solution for the sake of the Myanmar people, as well as regional peace and stability.

Viet Nam always hopes that the Myanmar situation will be stabilized soon, he said, adding that the nation will actively discuss with the related partners and parties to promote self-restraint, dialogue, reconciliation, along with the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus of ASEAN.

He underlined the need to enhance the settlement of socio-economic difficulties and the humanitarian issue through the ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management.

Bishop voiced her support for ASEAN's centrality and efforts in seeking a solution to the Myanmar issue and spoke highly of Viet Nam's active engagement in this issue./.
