The tour is made at the invitation of Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi.
Six member countries of the MLC are China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Viet Nam.
The overall goal of the MLC is to promote comprehensive cooperation for the common benefit of the subregion, strengthen mutual trust and understanding, and maintain peace and stability.
It aims to promote sustainable development, reduce poverty, narrow development gaps, enhance regional and global economic integration, and promote friendship and good neighborly relations among the peoples of the Mekong–Lancang countries.
The three main pillars of cooperation consist of politics and security; economy and sustainable development; and culture, society, and people-to-people exchanges.
Priority areas of cooperation include: (i) Cooperation in water resource management; (ii) Enhancing connectivity; (iii) Cooperation in production capacity development; (iv) Cross-border economic cooperation; (v) Agricultural cooperation and poverty reduction.
As an active member of the bloc, Viet Nam has proactively engaged in drafting important guiding documents for cooperation and promoted water resources cooperation to become a priority area of the MLC.
Vietnamese ministries and sectors have participated in the activities of the Working Groups, contributing ideas to the preparation of plans and guidelines for each Working Group.
To date, 28 projects from Viet Nam's ministries, sectors, and localities have been approved by the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Special Fund, of which two projects have been completed, while the remaining are in the process of implementation./.
