Talking to European parliamentarians, Deputy PM Khiêm hoped that the European Union (EU) and Việt Nam would reach a framework agreement on partnership and cooperation (PCA). He also lauded the EU’s proposal for a bilateral free trade area.

As the Chair of ASEAN in 2010, Việt Nam will spare no effort to consolidate the bloc’s internal linkages and promote ASEAN’s relations with external partners, especially the EU, said the Deputy PM.

Exchanging his ideas with Mr. Wermer Langen on human rights, the host stressed that the Government of Việt Nam always respects these rights, particularly freedom, which are considered as the foundation for social development. He suggested the EU open more frank dialogues with Việt Nam and conduct more field-trips here to have an insight in the issue.

Acknowledging that Việt Nam and the EU share a good relationship and common benefits, Mr. Wermer Langen also agreed that the EU should have an opener view to human rights in Việt Nam.
