The hosts included California State Senator Leland Yee, Congressman Fabien Nunez, Speaker of the California State Assembly, leaders of the Oakland Port, Bantry Bay Ventures LLC, Barney Investment, East West Bank, and the Vietnamese-American Enterprises’ Association (VAEA).
During the meetings, the US politicians, investors and businesses considered Vietnam a market full of good potentialities, which is attracting a number of American trading and investment enterprises and groups.
Directors of the Oakland Port showed their willingness to share with Vietnamese partners their experience in building, operating and exploiting seaports. Some US companies and banks expressed their wish to open branches in Vietnam, expand banking transactions with the Vietnamese counterparts, and mobilize more capitals to do investment in Vietnam.
Meanwhile, many consulting companies wanted to introduce American investors and enterprises to Vietnam as well as bring Vietnamese companies to the securities trading centers in the US to help Vietnamese businesses speed up their integration into the international market.
Leaders of the legislative bodies of California said they wanted to collaborate with Vietnamese partners in developing economic and trading ties between the two countries to new height. According to Congressman Fabien Nunez, Speaker of the California State Assembly, information technology, biotechnology, cultural exchange, and education will be the focus for cooperation between Vietnam and California.
Deputy PM Phạm Gia Khiêm emphasized that Vietnam wants to build up, deepen and expand its economic ties with the US, so that the two sides can become trustworthy and equal trading partners. He expressed his hope that the trading partnership between Vietnam and California, the State of a large Vietnamese community and American friends who greatly support Vietnam, will be a model for economic relations between the two countries.
The Deputy PM informed that Vietnam will host the “Vietnam-California Business Forum in summer 2007 and suggested the Speaker of the California State Assembly to co-chair the event.
